PERSONA SOUND INDEX's first release. PSI_001 MARNY DRUMS is a collection of 40 drum compositions by Marcin Sulewski. This is a limited release.
PSI_001 MARNY DRUMS are recorded, performed, produced, and mixed to balance a sense of raw expression, feel, and character. For fans and freaks of grain and grit, 60’s and 70’s inspired drums, 90’s and 2000’s Hip Hop and sample culture, WuTang, Madlib, DOOM, DJ Shadow, D’Angelo (Questlove), El Michel’s Affair, etc. Marny’s aesthetic and rhythmic world is made up of good sh*t.
- 40 full length loopable drum compositions ( long take breaks), minimum of 8 bars. These are not short breaks recorded on one drum kit with one mic set up. These are takes 20-58 secs long with fills, idiosyncrasies and vibe
- Recorded with 11 different mic combinations and techniques across 7 different drumkits
- All compositions are cut to a click, and are NOT edited/quantized to preserve the feel of Marny drumming
- Mono and stereo recordings, composition dependent
- Recorded, processed and produced to preserve character, detail and transients. These ride the line of impactful first impressions whilst leaving room for further compression and dynamic processing if desired.
- Played with brushes, a variety of sticks and mallets, percussion and a number of different kick drums beaters
- Vintage drums used include late 60’s Gretsch Round Badge Kit, early 60’s Slingerland Kit, and frankenstein set ups consisting of the above and a 1950’s Gretsch Bass Drum, early 70’s Ludwig Acrolyte Snare, early 60’s Gretsch Round Badge Snare, and a early 60’s Leedy Piccolo Snare
- Very cool toy and bargain drums, snares and homemade percussion are also loved and used. We love mixing high and low ;-)
- Tracked and processed with BAE 73MPL, Rupert Neve 511, and Chandler TG 2 preamps, Empirical Labs EL7 FATSO jr, DBX 165, UA 1176 revD, 70’s Roland Space Echo, and a 80’s Furman RV-1 Spring Reverb
- Mics used, vintage and contemporary: 70’s Sony C-38B, 70’s UniDyne III, 60’s Beyer M500, 70’s AKG D190 & D707, 60’s Sennheiser 421, 80’s AKG C414 BULS Stereo Pair, Coles 4038, SM7B, SM57, Neumann TLM-103 and Telefunken M82
